Job Description

We are working with a leading name in the knitwear industry, committed to delivering trend-driven, high-quality designs customers. They are looking for a talented and creative Knitwear Designer to join their team and drive innovative product development.

Based in Manchester you will need to have previous knitwear design experience and a sound understanding of yarns and gauges, creating commercial fashion forward designs.

Main Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct trend analysis to identify key seasonal directions for customers.
  • Develop mood boards to capture design inspiration and storytelling.
  • Interpret and understand customer product development requirements to create relevant designs.
  • Oversee product development, ensuring designs align with customer expectations and brand identity.
  • Produce detailed sketch sheets for design proposals and production handovers.
  • Develop commercially viable knitwear ranges tailored to customer needs.
  • Present collections to customers alongside Account Managers, ensuring alignment with brand strategies.
  • Conduct competitive shopping (comp shopping) and analysis to maintain a market-leading position.
  • Liaise with the production team, providing all necessary product design details upon order confirmation.

Person Specifications:

  • Strong understanding of knitwear design, including yarns, stitches, and garment construction.
  • Experience in trend forecasting and market research.
  • Ability to create and interpret technical sketches and spec sheets.
  • Excellent presentation skills and confidence in communicating with customers.
  • Knowledge of the production process, from concept to final product.
  • Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
