Job Description

We are seeking a highly creative and skilled Knitwear Designer to join a leading supplier of high-quality fashion garments, specialising in innovative and trend-driven knitwear.

Based in Leicester, the ideal candidate will have a passion for knitwear design, a strong understanding of current fashion trends, and the technical expertise to bring innovative knitwear collections to life. This role involves working closely with the technical, and merchandising / production teams to ensure the highest quality standards in design, fit, and function.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Create innovative and commercially viable knitwear designs based on seasonal trends, market demands, and client briefs.

  • Research and analyse fashion trends, yarns, textures, colours, and patterns to inspire new collections.

  • Develop mood boards, sketches, and technical drawings that effectively communicate design concepts.

  • Source appropriate yarns, trims, and embellishments for each design, keeping in mind sustainability and cost-effectiveness.

  • Attend fit sessions and provide direction on design adjustments and garment construction to ensure design integrity is maintained.

  • Work closely with buyers, clients, and external partners to understand their needs, presenting knitwear collections and making revisions as required.

  • Develop detailed technical specifications for all designs, including knit structure, yarn composition, and sizing.

  • Work with technical teams to ensure garment construction, fit, and finishes meet industry standards and brand expectations.

Person Specifications:

  • Creative thinker with an eye for detail.

  • Previous knitwear design experience within a supplier or fashion brand.

  • Strong understanding of garment construction, knitwear techniques, and yarn properties.

  • Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and other CAD programs.

  • Strong knowledge of the fashion market and current knitwear trends.

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
