Job Description

We are seeking a talented and experienced Fabric Developer to join a highly successful supplier who supplies to large volume high street retailers.

Based in Manchester, in this role, you will be responsible for the development, sourcing, and innovation of fabrics to meet the creative and technical needs of their customers. You will work closely with design, production, and sourcing teams to ensure that fabrics align with the brand's aesthetic, quality standards, and sustainability goals.

My client is looking for someone from either a design or fabric development background.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and source fabrics that align with customers vision and product specifications.

  • Collaborate with suppliers and mills to create custom fabrics, ensuring they meet quality, performance, and cost requirements.

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends, innovations, and technologies in fabric and textile development.

  • Manage the lifecycle of fabric development, from initial concept through to final approval.

  • Resolve any issues related to fabric quality, ensuring all materials meet or exceed company standards.

  • Identify and develop sustainable fabric options, supporting the company's sustainability goals.

  • Partner with design, production, and merchandising teams to ensure fabric choices align with overall product strategy.

Person Specifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in design, fabric development or a related role within the fashion or textile industry.

  • Proven track record of developing and sourcing fabrics from concept to production.

  • Passionate about textiles and fabric innovation.

  • Strong knowledge of fabric construction, fibres, finishes, and textile manufacturing processes.

  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and PLM systems.
